Amazing! And I still probably only have about 7 readers. Hello 7 readers! Love you.
Things you may not know about me:
I used to be Catholic. I don’t know what I am anymore (other than a Humanist) but it is definitely not Catholic. My confirmation name was Jane (in Catholic confirmation one renames oneself after a Saint. Or something. I don’t really know). Saint Jane de Chantal. Can’t recall why I picked that name. I do know that I wanted to pick Saint Frances of Assisi , but the nun wouldn’t let me use a man’s name. Those darn nuns!
In a high school production of Bye Bye Birdie I played the awestruck, crazy, screaming, hyper Ursula. It was fun. I still have “We love you Conrad” playing in my head a lot.
My best Halloween costume was a Fry Guy. But I hate McDonald’s. Also, I am currently eating a McFlurry. (also, what the fuck is that thing?)
The first band I was ever obsessed with was U2. The boy I crushed on in 7th grade (he moved away that summer, the bastard) introduced me to them.
My awesome college roommate, Heather, from my USF days was so devoted to Perry Ferrell she made a sculpture of him. I wonder what happened to that thing. She played all kinds of punk while I played Toad the Wet Sprocket. We had a very strange radio show.
I am kind of embarrassed by how obsessed I was with Toad the Wet Sprocket. When they played at Iowa I jumped in their Holiday Inn van and introduced myself. I also loaded them up with free coffee and muffins from the Union Pantry where I worked.
My first kiss was awful. And way late. I wished I had kissed much earlier.
I didn’t go on one date in high school. One boy did ask me out and wrote me a very nice letter about wanted to go on a date and he even called to invite me to a dance but I rejected him all around and pretended he didn’t exist. If I could go back in time I’d go out on that date with him instead of holding out for that other guy. Damn high school.
I used to be skinnier before Paxil, but I’ve never been a skinny girl. I’d be content being pleasantly plump, but I think I’m a little too weighty at the moment. Please ignore my future requests for McFlurries.
Besides the awesome girl herself, my favorite thing about being a parent is the marvelous world of children’s books.
Infinite Summer is almost here! Just a few more days. I have to finish House of Leaves already.
